I am a security consultant presently trying to sell my home.
Despite common sense hiding of valuables, some items were stolen during an inspection of our home.
Anecdotal evidence from friends suggests the problem of theft during 'open inspections' is prevalent. Indeed, there is information to suggest criminals specifically exploit inspections as a means for 'casing' potential targets or simply stealing items.
At present, agents only request names and numbers of visitors, both of which could be spoofed by an opportunistic thief.
I suggest that the practice of insisting on sighting and recording the contents of Government issued photo-identification be introduced as a standard across the industry. I believe this initiative, and its enforcement would be worthwhile.
